Bag-Ception

This project aims at addressing the question of how functional art can play a role in reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The series of three tote bags produced will be crocheted out of plarn made from plastic bags to repurpose and recycle used bags from around campus. These bags will be used when shopping to show the importance of not using single use plastic bags and to emphasize the importance of protecting the environment and particularly sea turtles in the Chesapeake Bay that die from consuming plastic contaminants. The intended audience is UMD students to teach them to make sustainable lifestyle choices, as well as anyone shopping frequently.
