Pentathalon Semester 1

As an experiential component of College Park Arts Scholars, I attended a selection of five art events during my first semester. These events ranged in art mediums and each sparked dialogue among my peers.

#VisualArt: Paint to Music

While adjusting to the school schedule, it is nice to take a break and do something relaxing and peaceful. When looking through the visual arts ideas, painting to music jumped out at me. I painted a version of the Maryland flag on a mini canvas in my dorm room while listening to music. It was enjoyable and now I will have more room decor! Dealing with the stress of my workload, this was an effective way to have fun and take my mind off of the stress.

Walters Art Museum: #visualart #artscholars

The peer mentors Jackie, Jenna and Katie held an event over Zoom where we were able to virtually visit the Walters Art Museum. I was able to look at pieces of art with them and afterwards on my own from the museum. As a whole, the museum was very interesting because it didn't have the typical paintings that you would expect. Instead, there were a ton of different artifacts for us to look at. By browsing many categories, we were able to look at artifacts from interesting time periods and places that we wouldn't be able to see on a daily basis: such as Ancient Americas, The 18th and 19th Centuries, Ethiopia, Japan, Korea and more!

#Presentation #ScholarsVote: Pre-Election Conversation

Listening to the various panelists helped me learn a lot about voting that I wasn't aware of before. They clarified how to vote during the pandemic this year and where to bring my ballot. It was interesting to hear the various point of views and what they find important when deciding on the candidate to vote for. This call helped ease the stress of figuring out how to vote and gave me new insights to research about the candidates before making my decisions. Make your voice heard and vote!!

Chill with a Quill

#artscholars #literature

The Chill with a Quill event was run by AAB over zoom. During the call, we were given two prompts, and I chose to write a letter to my future self. It was a relaxing way to destress and have hope for what the future brings. Instead of worrying about my current problems, it gave me time to just write and enjoy thinking to the fun things the future might hold for me. The session was very therapeutic with sons playing throughout and a judge-free environment to just write. Writing is a form of art that I might not always consider, but it can be very useful and relaxing.
